Staying at Beacon Hermitage… Seasons for growth.
As colder weather moves into the highlands of the Hudson Valley, the views are transformed. The color of leaves and ferns change over to the architectural wonder of hardwood forests clothed in shades of grey. Call us crazy, but we love winter in these hills. You can see the backbone of the mountains. The bare branches of the trees dusted in an early morning frost are starkly beautiful against a winter sky. It’s grounding to hear the leaves crunch underfoot with a brittleness unique to winter and to watch the way your breath hangs in the air for a long moment. Icicles form along the edge of the stream and the light dances on the stones that grace the footpaths in our woods. Nothing can keep us inside during the first snow of the season. Look up: the sky is dancing! And the late season snows – you know, the ones with the great big fat lazy flakes – create such a hush around you, that time stands still and the whole world is yours and yours alone…
Wintertime offers an especially nice opportunity to truly relax and decompress. Sit in our cheerful lounge and enjoy a book or movie from our collection. This time of year also offers some of the best birding with sightings of Bluebirds, Cardinals, and Black-capped Chickadee, flocks of Geese along with shy Owls, Downy Woodpecker, Wild turkeys, and many varieties of American Goldfinch. If you just want to hunker down and stay at the Hermitage, we also offer a bottle of wine with our compliments, and you are all set! Then, wake up in the morning to specially brewed coffee our famous pancake breakfast. All a part of life at Beacon Hermitage. It doesn’t get better than this…

What our guests have said about our home.
Where to begin! From the delicious pancake breakfasts, the amazing art class in the barn/studio, the awesomely decorated and comfortable lodgings, and the serene swimming hole basically in the backyard, to the the two incredibly friendly, accommodating, and all-around lovely hosts, this place was an absolute dream. My girlfriend and I spent a long weekend at the Hermitage and were overwhelmed at how great the place was, and for such a reasonable price. The hosts went out of their way to make sure our stay was perfect, and they had a wealth of knowledge about the surrounding area and suggestions of activities, though to be honest we would have been happy never leaving the Hermitage, as there were plenty of hammocks and places to lounge both indoors and out. Jim and Adrian are simply the best hosts you could ask for. We couldn’t recommend them any more highly!
My partner and I had a wonderful stay with Jim and Adrian. They were absolutely the most gracious hosts, providing tea and dessert the night we arrived and a delicious, abundant breakfast the next morning. They even picked us up in downtown Beacon! Our room was clean, comfortable, and well decorated. Not to be overlooked is the fantastic outdoor space–gardens, hammocks, and plenty of places to wander through and explore on the grounds made their home the perfect Spring getaway. Adrian took us on a lovely walk through the neighboring woods to a waterfall. We really couldn’t have asked for a better stay, or for warmer, more gracious hosts. If you’re ever in Beacon, I would highly recommend staying with Jim and Adrian.
We had an amazing stay at Jim and Adrian’s home. They are truly hospitable and friendly, and we chatted on everything. We felt truly welcomed to their home, and theirs is a true home. Cosy, familiar, warm. Leon and Truffaut, the two cats are also amazing. Very friendly and beautiful. Seeing Leon on his emperor’s bed on top of the fridge was always reassuring.
The house is a beauty. They have tons of art, a big garden, a barn, hammocks, lawn… five minutes walking from the house there are natural waterfalls and two pristine ponds. If you keep walking up, two hours later you would be at the top of Mt. Beacon, with impressive views over the hilly woods and the Hudson.
The room is perfect, they have a nice bed, and also a vey nice bathroom with a big bath tub.
Probably the best was to enjoy the amazing breakfast and conversation with our hosts and their neighbors.
Thanks for having us.
